Have you ever thought about publishing your own book? Well if you have this workshop is for you, full of practical information that you can put into practice.
What you can expect
Designed to introduce self-publishing to the independent author, this workshop will explain how publishing works and how self-publishing can work for you. It will outline how to avoid the common pitfalls and will guide you on the path to becoming a successful, published independent author. On completion of the workshop you will have a greater understanding of the publishing process, copyright law, how to find the right editor, designer or project manager, self-publishing options available, digital bookselling and more.
What the course covers
Module 1: The Publishing Process and Copyright Law
Module 2: Accreditation in Publishing: How to find the right editor, designer or project manager for your book?
Module 3: Who is involved in book sales and who takes a share of the profit?
Module 4: What are my options to self-publish my book?
Module 5: What will each self-publishing option cost you?
Module 6: Traditional Publishing versus Self-publishing: what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Module 7: Avoid the pitfalls and checklist
Participants who wish to do so may submit a synopsis of their self-publishing project/idea three weeks before the course commences along with a sample of the work.
Siobhán Prendergast has over two decades’ experience in publishing, a member of CIEP and AFEPI and has worked with many prestigious publishing houses and prize-winning authors including Anita Brookner, José Saramago, W.G. Sebald, Mary McAleese, Ken Bruen, Peter Høeg, Gerry Adams and Alice Taylor.
