An overview of writing for film and TV and a practical approach to starting out. This workshop is for writers who want to pursue a career in screenwriting and are realistic about the challenges faced by emerging writers.

What the workshop covers

The first half explores opportunities available in the changing industry landscape and the second half looks at how a successful short film can be an invaluable calling card to get your career kick-started. You can expect practical and realistic advice about what the modern industry offers and an in-depth look at how a successful short film can act as a springboard to bigger opportunities.

Workshop leader

Ailbhe Keogan’s first feature film, Run & Jump, was selected as part of the Berlin Talent Campus Script Station and the Sundance Institute’s Lab. Directed by Oscar-nominated Steph Green, it premiered at Tribeca in 2012 and the script went on to win numerous awards. Her second feature, Joyride, was released in 2022, with Olivia Coleman in the lead role. Her third feature, Sunlight, is directed by award-winning Claire Dix and stars Barry Ward and Liam Carney. Ailbhe was a writer on Bad Sisters, Sharon Horgan’s dark comedy TV show, which streamed on Apple TV in 2022, and is currently adapting Louise Kennedy’s critically-acclaimed debut novel Trespasses for a TV mini-series.
