Djamel White burst onto the Irish literary scene like no other in 2026. All Them Dogs,” his debut novel, follows the fictional character Tony Ward on his return to West Dublin’s ganglands and was released to the kind of critical acclaim a debut author might only dream about.

THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT

Djamel’s long road to publication is both moving and inspiring. Djamel left secondary school at the age of 17, and while dealing with lots of problems at home, he managed to fight his way out and enrolled in a community training programme for early school leavers. From there, he found people who believed in and respected him, propelling him to go to university at the age of 21. There, he earned a BA in English and Creative Writing, and an MFA in Creative Writing, both from University College Dublin. During this time, he worked with Irish non-profit literary organisation Fighting Words, established by Roddy Doyle in 2009, which sparked his belief that one day he could become a writer.

He will be in conversation with Niall McDowell, chair of the Dingle Literary Festival board.

Now in rare company as an Irish Booker-longlisted author, this is an exciting time to hear firsthand from Djamel White how he got to this point – and what comes next.
