Is Sebastian Barry “one of the best writers in the English language”? So thought the Washington Post in 2014, and Barry has not rested on his laurels since – publishing a further four novels, including Costa’s Book of the Year, Days Without End, and the Booker Prize longlisted Old God’s Time.
Barry’s latest novel, The Newer World, follows Tennyson Bouguereau in the aftermath of the American Civil War – a freed man, devoted brother, nascent singer and conflicted soldier. Populated with the rich cast of characters we have come to expect from a Sebastian Barry novel, this is a lyrical and visceral exploration of what it is to survive and what might be lost along the way.
Sebastian Barry will be interviewed by Martin Doyle. Doyle, an author in his own right, has, in his 35 years as an arts journalist, interviewed some of Ireland’s most talented and successful writers – many of which interviews are contained in his 2026 collection “A Hosting“.
Simply put, this is one of Ireland’s greatest writers in conversation with one of its greatest interviewers – sit back and enjoy.
