What’s involved with volunteering at Dingle Lit?
6:47pm | Tue 15 Aug 2023
Do you want to get involved, give something back to the community, meet new people and get to attend festival events for free?
Volunteers are at the heart of the Dingle Lit festival. While the entirely volunteer-led organising committee is working away all year round, during the festival weekend, from 17-19 November this year, we couldn’t make it happen without the help of the extra volunteers who come on board to help everything run smoothly.
There are lots of things to do, from staffing the box office, to directing attendees to the right location for their event, to checking tickets on the doors. We also need help looking after the authors in the green room when they’re waiting to go on stage, and all the million little things that crop up last minute, when an extra pair of hands can save the day.
“What fun it was to be a volunteer at Dingle Lit in 2022. The only difficulty I encountered was trying to distinguish between the hard-working committee, who had planned it all, and the band of volunteers over the days of the festival due to the inclusivity, respect and camaraderie shown to all. We were a lovely mix of home and abroad, young and old, experienced and newbies. You could come knowing little about literature but leaving with new knowledge and skills. Would I like to do it again? Oh, yes please!! ” – Liz Dunn
There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a people person that just loves being out front welcoming people to the venue, or you’re a quieter kind of bookworm, that would rather stay a little more in the background, if you have a passion for books, and would enjoy being part of a warm and friendly festival, we’d love to hear from you.
We’ll be hosting a get-together for volunteers, and those who would like to know a little more about it, in Thyme Out café on Dykegate Lane on Tuesday 5th September, from 6pm to 8pm, and we’d love to see you there.
If you have skills you want to volunteer outside of the festival weekend, through pro bono work on anything from admin to marketing to social media, or approaching potential sponsors for funding, you can get in touch at any time throughout the year.
