Online workshop led by Katie Roden
ONLINE VIA ZOOM
Date: Sunday 14 November 2021
Time: 15.30 – 17.00 IST/GMT
Who the workshop is for
Unpublished writers aspiring to be published, be that through traditional or non-traditional channels. Writers who have been unsuccessful in their attempts to be published who would gain a better understanding of the industry and how it works.
What the workshop covers
1. A summary of how marketing, publicity and sales interact within trade publishing.
2. How publishers find and reach their most important audiences – and what those audiences expect.
3. What’s expected of authors, and how you can make the most of all opportunities.
4. Plenty of case studies and inspirational examples throughout.
5. An interactive Jamboard session to help understand the importance of communications.
What you can expect
By the end of the seminar you will have a greater understanding of the role of PR, publicity and marketing and its contribution to publishing success. You will also know more about what a publisher will expect from its authors and, if self-publishing, what you will have to do for yourself.
Seminar Leader – Katie Roden
“Having worked in trade publishing for nearly 30 years, including 11 years as a Publishing Director at Hachette, I now create marketing and fan engagement strategies for some of the world’s biggest publishers and authors, including the global marketing campaign for Elton John’s Me and UK campaigns for Mariah Carey’s The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga’s Channel Kindness and Marcus Rashford’s You Are A Champion. Outside publishing, I have worked with a range of high-profile brands across all sectors, including contracts as Interim Head of Content Commissioning at O2 (Telefonica), Strategy Lead for the V&A Museum’s Academy and in various roles for the Guardian newspaper, among others. As an associate of digital agency Seven League, I have developed fan engagement strategies for sports clients including the Premier League and UFC. I am also a facilitator for Google’s Digital Academy, delivering workshops and marketing labs for Google’s biggest clients.”
